Obama Campaign Basher Balanced Budget Amendment

The re-election campaign of President Obama is pushing a proposed constitutional amendment to balance the federal budget, the Republican-term US House is scheduled to vote Friday.

"If passed, the Republican proposal calls for significant reductions that can provide everything from education and Medicare programs of nutrition and health for vulnerable children," said Obama campaign website.

The campaign also includes a list of budget cuts by state, what he says will be constrained by the amendment - including the key states in the 2012-election.

According to the Obama team, Medicare could be reduced from $ 2.4 billion in Virginia, $ 4.4 billion in Michigan, and $ 1.1 billion in Iowa.

Their list of possible cuts in Social Security: $ 12.9 billion in Florida, Arizona, $ 3.7 billion and $ 5.9 billion in North Carolina.

Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, said he was disappointed by the opposition to Obama a balanced budget amendment, calling it the best way "to slow the growth in government and give the opportunity to grow our economy and create jobs job ".

"The American people overwhelmingly back a balanced budget amendment, and many economists and experts agree the adoption of such a change would help create a better environment for private sector employment growth," said Boehner.

Even if Parliament passes balanced budget amendment, he would face long odds in the Democratic Republic of the Senate.

One final note: On its website, said the Obama campaign Republican presidential candidates also support the balanced budget amendment, but only mentions by name: Mitt Romney.
