The ActiveHybrid 5 is a puzzling vehicle. Based on BMW's 535i midsize luxury sedan, the ActiveHybrid 5 adds a costly gas-electric powertrain but offers barely any fuel economy or performance benefits.
To create the ActiveHybrid 5, BMW took the 300 horsepower, 300 lb-ft of torque 3.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged inline-six cylinder from the 535, along with its eight-speed automatic transmission and then added a 55 horsepower, 155 lb-ft or torque electric drive system. The result is a combined peak 335 horsepower (hybrids requite some fuzzy math) and the ability to drive up to 37 miles per hour on electric power alone. The electric power for the motor is provided from a lithium-ion battery with 96 cells and a usable capacity of 675 watt hours. BMW says the ActiveHybrid used both a 14.6 volt power supply and a 317 volt supply, with the two systems linked together through a voltage transformer.

The Acura ILX is an entry-level compact luxury sedan intended to serve as a gateway car to draw in Generation Y buyers looking to move up to a premium brand. Though based on the Honda Civic, the ILX distances itself from its plebeian roots with distinct styling, additional tech and convenience features and a more coddling cabin.
The ILX's front end is unmistakably an Acura design, though the controversial "beak" grille is more gracefully incorporated than in some of the brand's other vehicles. The sides of the ILX feature a pair of eye-catching character lines: one runs relatively straight from the front headlight to the back of the rear window, while the other starts aft of the front wheel and sweeps up to create a "hip" above the rear wheel were the two meet. Around back, the taillights are reminiscent of the units on the brand's crossover vehicles.

2013 Bentley Continental Flying Spur
Bentley recently gave its Continental Flying Spur a modest exterior refresh, with changes to the front and rear of this large ultra-luxury sedan. The automaker also extended the 600-horsepower 'Speed' treatment to the four-door car, after first debuting the high-performance edition for the GT coupe.
The Flying Spur was introduced for the 2006 model year. A direct result of Bentley's then-new owners, the Volkswagen Auto Group, the sedan shares its basic underpinnings and some mechanical bits with VW's late Phaeton. As one would expect of a Bentley, it boasts a capacious interior trimmed in the some of the softest leather and highest quality wood imaginable.

The latest Flying Spur features a more upright grille and bolder lower air intake, while the revised rear bumper delivers a more aggressive and sleek appearance.
Bentley also decided to update the Flying Spur's electronic stability program and offer optional carbon ceramic brakes should owners try and test that 195 mph top speed. An optional three-spoke steering wheel along with improved Bluetooth capability round out the changes.

2013 Honda Ridgeline
Honda Ridgeline is a unique pickup that employs car-like unibody construction in place of the rugged but unrefined body-on-frame setup that underpins its competitors. As a result, the Ridgeline provides a more comfortable ride and better handling than most pickups while still offering decent towing and hauling capabilities. For 2009 onward, the Ridgeline received a modest update that gave it a new look and additional features.
Unlike most pickup trucks on the market, the Ridgeline comes only in a one-size-fits-all configuration with four doors, seating for five and a five-foot-long cargo bed. A unique feature of this cargo bed is a small covered trunk inside. It can be accessed via the tailgate, which both folds down, like other pickups, but also swings to the side for easier access.

2013 Jaguar XJ

The XJ is a full-size luxury sedan that represents a departure from Jaguar's formerly conservative design practices. For the latest model year, this athletic and coddling four-door gained a new supercharged V6 base engine in addition to an available all-wheel-drive system.
With headlights styled like narrowed eyes, a gracefully sloping roofline and unique black C-pillars, the XJ looks like nothing else in the segment. The tall front end, which no doubt was designed with European pedestrian safety standards in mind, is generally styled like the XF, although the grille juts out further from the fascia. From the side, the XJ takes a vastly different approach as the shape reaches the C-pillar, which does not sweep in the same vaguely Lexus style of the XF.Out back, Lancia-esque tail lamps curve up the rear and the dramatically sloped rear window gives the car a four door coupe-style profile.

2013 Mitsubishi Lancer
Mitsubishi's compact Lancer sedan offered crisp styling and sharper handling than almost anything else in its segment when it first launched back in 2007. However, the competition has improved significantly in recent years; while the Lancer continues to feature a unique look in addition to more bodystyle and powertrain configurations than many rivals, it's a bit outclassed in terms of overall refinement.
Despite the Lancer's age, its "shark-nose" front grille, pointed headlights and crisp lines give it a distinctive and attractive look compared to other small sedans. Though not as unique as the exterior, the cabin features a pleasing and simple design, and the controls and logically arranged and intuitive to use. Those looking for a touch of luxury should note that the Lancer doesn't feature as many upmarket soft-touch surfaces as some newer entries in the segment.

2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4Matic
When a company like Mercedes-Benz can attribute 40 percent of its overall sales to its particular lineup of SUVs, that’s a lot of haymaking. It also requires them to constantly evolve in an effort to stay on top of their game – like a heavily updated entry-level GLK.
The GLK underwent a revision that improved on the build and character of the previous version. Labeled as a 2013 model, it was delivered for retail sales in the summer of 2012. Despite sharing the side profile of its predecessor, the GLK was vastly improved for the new model year.
We hopped on board the range-topping GLK 350 4Matic to check out the differences.

2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4Matic
What is it?
Internally known as the Geländewagen Luxus Kompaktklasse, the GLK originally debuted at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show. Like its much larger G Wagen brother, it was available in Europe for several years before making its first appearance in North America as a 2010 model.
A five-passenger compact crossover, the GLK is a fave amongst a group comprised of pre- and post- family sets, hipsters with cash and urbanites who rarely carry more than two people at a time. Why buy a four-door, five-passenger vehicle when you’ll only carry two, you ask? To scoff at that suggestion would be to miss the point: Buyers seek the confidence of its capabilities rather than having an actual need for such. Sort of like car insurance, you hope you never have to use it, but it is comforting to know it’s there.

In an automotive world increasingly filled with car-based "crossover" SUVs, the Nissan Armada stands out with its old-school body-on-frame construction. This rugged base gives the full-size, eight-passenger SUV respectable off-roading chops and a towing capacity of up to 9,000 pounds.
2013 Nissan Armada
First introduced back in 2004, the Armada is getting on a bit in years but is still a good choice for those looking to do large amounts of people or cargo hauling. Nissan has also kept the big truck fresh with a series of updates throughout its life span, the most notable of which was a major interior overhaul in 2008. It replaced the old, garbage-can quality plastics with rich appointments that wouldn't look out of place in an Infiniti.

As one would expect from its gargantuan exterior dimensions, the Armada has no shortage of interior acreage. Space in generous for first and second-row passengers, although the third-row is best suited for children. Cargo room is 20.0 cubic feet with all three rows in place, 56.7 cubic feet with the third row folded and 97.1 cubic feet with just the first row seats in the upright position.

Over the years Harley-Davidson edition Ford trucks have utilized normally aspirated V8 motors, special supercharged engines and turbocharged diesels, but the latest model uses a special high-performance V8.

First introduced in 1999 as a jacked-up, quasi-SUV version of the A6 Avant wagon, Audi's allroad nameplate is back after a seven-year absence as a more macho version of the now-discontinued A4 Avant. Like the original, the latest allroad offers a mix of luxury, rugged looks and wagon practicality, although it lacks the old model's height-adjustable suspension and off-road-ready low-range gearing.

Outside, the allroad differs from the standard wagon with a unique eggcrate grille, a sportier front fascia and stainless steel skid plates and side sills. Matte finished lower bumpers and wheel arches along with aluminum roof rails are also allroad-specific touches. Despite the lack of off-road gear, the allroad does boast a 1.5-inch-higher ride height than the Avant for a total ground clearance of 7.5 inches.

2014 Mini Cooper
Mini’s iconic 2-door hatchback is being redesigned on a new platform to be shared with the first front-drive cars from parent BMW. Other Minis will be updated in due course. All will be somewhat larger--but a “mini Mini” is in the works too.

What We Know About the 2014 Mini Cooper

You may need a scorecard to keep track of the changes planned for the Mini lineup in coming years. The British icon revived by BMW over a decade ago will start its third design generation in late 2013 with a larger 2-door hatchback on a new platform. This so-called F-Series architecture will eventually host all Mini models, as well as the first front-wheel-drive BMWs, a group of new 1-Series “Compacts” that are due to arrive in 2013. The F-platform replaces the R-Series design developed for Mini’s rebirth in 2001 (U.S. model-year 2002) and which was heavily updated in ’06 (U.S. MY ’07). It is essentially the same as the “UKL1” structure developed for the new baby Bimmers. “UKL” stands for ünterklasse, “entry-level” in German.

Toyota has totally redesigned the large Avalon flagship sedan for the latest model year, with a fresh new body. The mechanicals are carried over, but there is a newly-added hybrid model. It's the first Avalon to get a four-cylinder engine, as all previous ones used Toyota's corporate 3.5-liter V6, good for 268 horsepower and 248lb-ft of torque.
The new-generation car continues to get this powerplant, sending motivation to the front wheels exclusively through a six-speed automatic. The transmission has been reprogrammed to be more responsive and efficient and gets a lower differential gear drive. There is also a transmission fluid warmer for prolonging its life.

Land Rover has redesigned its prestigious Range Rover flagship SUV for the latest model year. While the new full-size luxury ‘ute sports evolutionary changes to the exterior styling and cabin, the big news is a new, all-aluminum unibody structure that helps reduce curb weight by a staggering 700 pounds compared to the old model.
For the new generation, the Range Rover's tall greenhouse remains intact, a design cue that dates back to the 1970 model. However, an elongated front fascia that recalls the smaller Range Rover Evoque clearly gives it an updated, yet familiar, face. Instead of upright head lamps, the new Range Rover's lights sweep back into the fenders, further accentuating the rounded appearance.
